Born Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino in 1483, his work is renowned for its clarity of form and ease of composition. Over time, he became known as simply, the one and only, Raphael. His contributions spanned from exquisite Madonnas and architectural designs to the monumental frescoes in the Vatican’s Stanze. His artistry embodied the Renaissance ideals of beauty and harmony, leaving a legacy that profoundly influenced future generations of artists until his untimely death in 1520. Although he was very much influenced by the work of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he has left his own unique mark in the timeline of history. His work is breathtaking, timeless and worthy of admiration. The Italian artist’s complete name was Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, but he has become known, simply, as the one and only, Raphael. The exact date of this artwork is not known but he worked from 1500-1520. Raphael is best known as a Renaissance artist, famous for his depictions of the Maddonas, as well as his architectural projects. Although he was very much influenced by the work of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he has left his own unique mark in the timeline of history.
