Lantern by Schroeder

Wisconsin artist Isaiah Schroeder’s contribution to The Art of Cutlery, a chef knife named “Lantern,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, spotlights Isaiah’s engineering talents and creative vision through a two-piece kitchen work: chef knife and matching magnetic wall rack. The knife’s blade is forged by hand from homemade, low-layer stainless damascus steel and finished with a high polish. In African Blackwood with forged integral damascus bolster, the handle is inlaid with a UV-activated composite in a matching pattern to the cut-outs found in the flats of the blade. Complementing both is a magnetic holder in leather atop African Blackwood inlaid with the same UV-activated composite. Built for daily cooking, the knife’s edge is hard and sharp.
